NFDC Demolition Waste Action Plan
This action plan has been written in conjunction with the Construction Resources and Waste Platform (CRWP) to support the NFDC's target of diverting 90% of demolition waste from landfill annually. This plan describes the actions required, the rationale behind the actions, the intended impact/benefit and the proposed timescales. It also identifies stakeholders and what involvement will be required.
NFDC Demolition Waste Target
The joint industry/Government Strategy for Sustainable Construction sets out a framework to ensure the sector plays a central role in delivering sustainability and prosperity across the economy. As part of this strategy, an overarching target has been set for a 50% reduction of construction, demolition and excavation waste (CD&E) to landfill by 2012 compared to the 2008 baseline figure. To reach this target, individual sectors and bodies have agreed a number of actions. The National Federation of Demolition Contractors (NFDC), as the voice of the UK demolition industry, has committed to setting a target for reducing demolition waste to landfill. The Construction Resources and Waste Platform (CRWP) have assisted the NFDC in setting this target and associated plan.

Investing in Sustainability
The report, ‘Investing in sustainability: progress and performance among the UK's listed house-builders revisited’, is part of WWF's One Million Sustainable Homes (OMSH) campaign, the aim of which is to move sustainability from the fringes to the mainstream of UK housing. With regard to waste, most companies are beginning to manage their waste more effectively on site but there is a huge variation in the way waste data is collected and monitored, making it hard to effectively write and implement policy.
