6th Environmental Action Programme (6EAP)- 2002

6th Environmental Action Programme (6EAP)- 2002

The 6EAP calls for a number of inter-related measures designed to reduce the environmental impacts of resource use in line with the EU’s sustainable development strategy. The overall aim is to achieve better resource efficiency and is attempting to crack the nut of  ‘decoupling the use of resources and the generation of waste from the rate of economic growth’. The first contribution of the 6EAP and the most significant in terms of waste minimisation is the communication from the Commission entitled ‘towards a thematic strategy on the prevention and recycling of waste’.
